Game Summary

It fell upon me, a former rock scribe, to select the track for Overtime. The job was to strike a balance between personal taste and the mandate to add a new chapter in Chicago's recording history.

At the core would be the great singles rendered in album-length versions, a ten-year chronology from Make Me Smile through No Tell Lover. For the parent-accompanied kids who experienced the band for the first time during their 1995 concert tour, Overtime could very well be their introduction to Chicago's recordings and we want it to be as comprehensive as possible.

Ditto for the casual fan who never did quite bridge the interval from vinyl/audio cassette to CD. But what do you do for people who have been there every step of the way?

A couple of things. You'll notice that both Dialogue (part I & II) and Saturday In The Park are live versions, recorded in Osaka Japan June 10-12 at the 1972 Osaka Music Festival, and previously only available on an extremely rare Japanese import. We couldn't think of a better way of blending a live perspective into this package. The original band sounds incredible on these tracks.

Fast forward to 1993 and a studio session in Simi Valley produced by Peter Wolf. The as-yet unreleased rock album is titled Stone of Sisyphus and we're previewing the title track, written by Lee Loughnane and DaWayne Bailey, and the ballad Bigger Than Elvis, penned by Jason Scheff, Ina Wolf and Peter Wolf.

They prove that Chicago remains as vital as ever. Happily for me and aAstral Music, the band loved our proposed compilation and we're just as proud to bring it to you.

So welcome to Overtime - full of extra effort, unexpected thrills and a complete disregard for the clock!
